Ben Gray

Ben Gray is an Australian businessman.

He is a founding partner of the private equity firm BGH Capital, and is the son of the former Premier of Tasmania Robin Gray.

He is married to the Australian politician Luba Grigorovitch.

Early life and education[edit]

Ben attended the University of Melbourne, and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Career[edit]

Ben worked at Credit Suisse in the investment banking division from 1994. In 2004 he joined TPG Inc. and eventually was promoted to be the regional head of Australia and New Zealand.

In 2015 Ben publicly announced that he was preparing to set up his own private equity firm.^[1] In 2017, he resigned from TPG Inc. and set up BGH capital with business partners Robin Bishop and Simon Harle.

He has publicly claimed that his investment approach is not a 'slash and burn' approach to investing.^[2]

In 2020, it was publicly reported by the AFR that a threat from James Packer had caused him to fear for his well-being following an attempt to take over the Crown casino business.^[3]

Personal life[edit]

Ben is married to the Australian politician Luba Grigorovitch.

He has a daughter to a previous marriage.^[4]

He owns a $30m mansion named 'Westbank', a two acre early 20th century limestone house built located in the coastal town of Sorrento, Victoria.^[5]^[6]
