Benjamin Hagarty (born June 5, 1988) is an American filmmaker and entrepreneur. He has been active directing, editing, and filming since 2015. His work has been featured in various music videos and documentaries, including Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé (2019), Mary J. Blige: The Making of Strength of a Woman - An Album Documentary (2017), and Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life (2017). Hagarty also founded the online production company Black With No Cream in July 2017. He has hosted his podcast, The Black With No Cream Podcast, since October 2017.
Early life
Hagarty was born on June 5, 1988, in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa in 2007. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Communication Studies in 2011.[1]
Film career
2015–Present
After moving to Los Angeles in 2015[2], Hagarty's first film project was editing the music video for Cal Scruby's 2015 single Ain't Shit Change featuring Chris Brown[3]. Later that year, filming began for Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life (2017), a documentary about the American singer, songwriter, dancer and actor Chris Brown in which Hagarty was the co-editor[4][5][6]. During that time, Hagarty directed and edited Mean Guys (2016), a digital short for EA Sports featuring Lil Dicky, Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, and Von Miller[7][8]. Hagarty then edited and filmed VH1's Mary J. Blige: The Making of Strength of a Woman - An Album Documentary (2017)[9][10]. He would go on to film footage for Jerome Strickland Jr.'s short film A-Minor (2019)[11], and Beyoncé's full length Netflix documentary Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé (2019)[12][13]
Other Work
In 2017, Hagarty founded Black With No Cream, an online collaborative media platform[14]. The company invites content creators to share original content on an online forum related to their industry to generate feedback, recommend new techniques, and encourage progress in their prospective field.
