Benglen
Benglen or Bänglen is a locality in the municipality of Fällanden in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. It originated as a hamlet and developed further with new housing toward the end of the 20th century. Its community has drawn much attention, which also includes the English Center Benglen (ENCEBE) language school. The name most likely originates from a plant term "Bängele" for umbellifers such as chervil.
History
Benglen was developed and built over with apartment blocks in the early 1970s. In the 1980s and 1990s, single-family home developments were built in both conventional and very unconventional architectural styles. The zoned area is now completely built up to the municipal boundary.
Geography
The geography of Benglen is at an elevation of about 1,877 feet, or 572 meters. It is characterized by a mix of Swiss plateau landscape with rolling hills, forests, and proximity to Lake Zurich and the Alps, offering temperate climate and scenic views typical for the region.
