Benjamin Casiano (born 1966) is an American contemporary painter and curator based in Stratford, Connecticut.[1] He is recognized for a signature figurative style often described as "Neo-Pop Cubism," characterized by bold geometric forms and subjects with a single eye.[2]
Biography
Born in 1966, Casiano earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He spent his early career as a Creative Director and Art Director for firms including Young & Rubicam and Lowe & Partners. Following the 2009 recession, he transitioned to a full-time career in fine art.[1] Since 2015, Casiano has served as the curator for the Mezzanine Gallery at The Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, Connecticut.[3]
Artistic Style and Themes
Casiano’s work blends elements of Cubism, Expressionism, and Pop Art. His paintings frequently feature a "one-eye" motif, a stylistic choice he developed as a symbolic "alter ego" before later losing vision in one eye due to an injury.[2] His primary subjects include feminine figures—often as a tribute to the women in his life—and classical musical instruments like violins.[1]
