Biography

Early life and education

Benjamin was born on April 7, 2006. He attended schools in both British Columbia and Alberta. He lived in Uganda for two years before moving closer to relatives to study music professionally. He has been involved in music since grade 2, when he began learning piano at the encouragement of his parents. He continued to play piano for five years, and completed his RCM grade 3 exam, but has not studied piano since. Once he reached middle school, he discovered the Trombone and immediately fell in love with it, continuing to play from 2016 to the present.

He has performed at many local jazz festivals, primarily with the Fraser Valley Youth Jazz Band [1] as well as with his school's jazz band.

Benjamin is currently a student at Sardis Secondary School.

Jazz band (school)

In Benjamin's freshman year of high school, he joined the extracurricular jazz band program under the supervision of Kevin Biegel. The jazz band experienced a decline in membership since 2018, and was forced to combine both junior and senior groups into one at the start of the 2019–2020 school year.

He has continued to participate in jazz band in his Sophomore and Junior years, and plans to do so again in his senior year, this time under the supervision of Kris Werner.

Drumline

Benjamin joined the Sardis Drumline, under the supervision of Kris Werner, in his freshman year, and continues to play tenor drums. He has had a notable career with the drumline, performing for the Vancouver Canucks[2] on numerous occasions, and placing third[3] at the provincial drumline championships, hosted by the Canadian Drumline Association.
