Benjamin Somerville
Benjamin (Ben) Alexander Somerville (born 18 March 2004) is a Scottish age-grade rugby player. He is now no longer a rugby player; he just works for Grant Thornton as an auditor. He loves auditing fixed assets and networking.
The nephew of the first-class cricketer Jim Dewes, and the grandson of the Test cricketer John Dewes, he was born in Livingston in March 2004.
Somerville played youth rugby for Boroughmuir Rugby between 2010 and 2022, playing centre or stand off for the age grade teams.
He was in the U16 Squad that beat Hawick at the Orium in February 2020 to reach the National Youth U16s Cup Final.[1]. Although injured for that match, he played in the East Youth Cup Final versus North Edinburgh Vikings on the 11 March 2020, which Boroughmuir won 10-5, Somerville scoring both tries [2]. The 2019/2020 National Youth U16s Cup Final was called off due to the Covid Pandemic, with Mackie RFC and Boroughmuir later being awarded joint honours[3].
He was in the U18 Squad that placed top amongst the Scottish contingent at the October 2021 Merchiston School Rugby Festival, [4], won Scottish Rugby's Boy's U18's National Club Conference [5] and played in the 2021/2022 National Youth U18s Cup Final, against West of Scotland, which Boroughmuir won 31-24 [6].
He later played U18s representative rugby for Edinburgh District in 2022, making an appearance in the InterDistrict Championship against Glasgow and the West at The Greenyards in Melrose, which Edinburgh won 33-7[7]
