Murder of Rita Salazer and Kevin Key[edit]

Salazer and Key met at an Austin nightclub and had a few dates and on November 5, 1978, they went to see a movie at the Highland Mall in Austin. They stopped the car back from a Dallas party. Key's 1974 Ford ran out of gas at I-35 near Round Rock. Jamie and Javier lead Key to a forest location and shot him with a 22 caliber rifle. They sexually assaulted her in the back of the car and Ben was only limited to masturbation and he left a semon stain on her underwear. She was begging for the others to stop. Kevin's car was found on Round Rock the following day. His body was founded with 7 gunshot wounds and was at north of Georgetown. A man named Robert Musley was the accomplice gunman with him (according to Tijerina when he was in court). Rita's body was found a day later dumped at Interstate 35 around nine miles south of Waco. In 2000, a detective in Willamson requested a testing of her underwear and the DNA recovered from an unknown male contributor from a DNA database called CODIS. His DNA was connected to the crime in 2010 after his DNA was founded in a DNA database called CODIS (according to District Attorney John Bradely). After that, they began to make a case against Ben. He admitted he abducted the couple while they were at a party in Austin and his friends, Jamie and Javier, committed the murders . He was convicted on June 17, 2010 for the murder. On February 28, 2012, Ben pleaded gulity to the crimes and he got 40 years in prison for 2 counts of murder and 1 for capital murder, and gotten a 1 million dollar bail. He will not be eligible for perroll until he served a 3rd of his sentence which will be 13 years. Many people thought it was Henry Lee Lucas who did it since he confessed to it in the mid-1980's.
