Grand Rising[edit]
Berlin was born on December 16, 1992, in California, and grew up in Orange County, California [1]. Although Berlin occasionally speaks about his childhood, not much is known about his childhood. However, he claims that his highschool years are what changed and developed him. In his video, "My Digital Story"[1] , he divulges that he would not be the way that he is today, had he not joined the choir at his high school with his significant other at the time. It is also made known that Berlin had created a channel in 2009 during his junior years, but he states once again in the same video[1] , that he felt that no one around him seemed to understand him and his aspirations to become a successful YouTuber, and so he deleted his channel, most likely called Berlin McBanks, after his Xbox pseudonym. However, he claims that after watching a pivotal scene in the sports drama, Rudy, he was inspired to pick back up the pieces and create a new channel, called "Berleezy". Berlin started out originally with vlogs, often speaking about experiences in his life, such as, "Trash Mexican Food", or skits, like his first video, "APRIL FOOLS". Although his videos gained some viewers after release and a few hundred subscribers, it was not until the release of his series, "EXPOSED", a series dedicated to finding inconsistencies in cartoons that he watched growing up, that he started to garner thousands of subscribers, of whom he calls the EEZYGANG. In, "BERLEEZY'S FIRST Q&A !", Berlin answers one of his fanatics, who asked "why did you start the exposed series?", to which he replied saying, "One day I was watching Hey Arnold!, and this was two years ago mind you, and so I just made a video talking crap about it Thanksgiving of last year, I cut that two-year-old video into 30 seconds, threw it on my Twitter, I woke up, and had a grip of tweets [about the exposed], and kept doing EXPOSED from there".[2]
Berleezy[edit]
Although technically, Berlin's content on his gaming channel began on July 28, 2016, with his 20-second video, "Not a Gaming Video... Unsubbing", he had his eye on the creation of a gaming channel, or perhaps the inclusion of gaming on his original channel since the beginning, especially since his "My Digital Story"[3] told viewers that he had planned to play games on his old channel until societal pressure got to him which caused him to delete it. Thankfully, however, he didn't remain defeated, and created another extremely successful channel, iBerleezy, which has over 1 million subscribers to date. However, he has changed the moniker of his iBerleezy channel to just Berleezy, and changed his original channel moniker from Berleezy to Berlin.
Berlin plays many titles on his channel, both new generations, and installments, such as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ghost of Tsushima, as well as relatively older games including, Ape Escape and Crazy Taxi. His first title and series was Outlast, a common genre staple, as Berlin is notorious for playing horror games, including, The Walking Dead, The Resident Evil Franchise, and Silent Hill 2, which attract large audience's who want to see Berlin getting scared at what he refers to as, "just a bunch of 0's and 1's".
Berlin is also known to play almost every choice-based game on the market, the most popular series on his channel being Telltale Game's: The Walking Dead. While playing games, he adapts a state of focus he calls, "Immersed", where he is in tune with the game, and what the writers want you to feel. He perfectly shows this as in both the finale of Telltale Game's: The Walking Dead: Season 1, the finale of Telltale Game's: The Walking Dead: The Final Season, as well as the finale of Square Enix's: Life is Strange 2, Berlin very noticeably cries, showing either severe frustration toward situations in the Life is Strange series, and the apparent death of beloved characters in the Walking Dead series.
Lately, Berlin has developed a habit of not completing his series from start to finish, often annoying his subscribers, and causing mild uproar in either the comment section of his videos or the chat of his Twitch. However, he has become more aware of this problem, and has worked towards finishing his games, as he completed the story of Marvel's Spider-Man, previously of which he had left to collect dust in his playlist cabin. He aims to complete other long-awaited titles especially the often brought up 2018 free-roam game, God of War.
As many of the Berleezy subscribers have come from the original channel, Berlin has received many complaints about inactivity on the original channel. However, he understands his patron's grievances and promises not to allow the channel to die off any time soon[4]. However, he states that he feels that he has grown out of that stage of "yelling at cartoons", and says that although he will occasionally still do an EXPOSED video from time to time, he won't continue making it as recent and as often as it once had been.
Titles[edit]
Berlin does very well to make sure that he is ready for the latest games. In fact, he has gotten a few early redeem codes, to starting games before the majority of players.
So far Berlin has completed on the channel: Outlast, Outlast: Whistleblower DLC, Outlast 2, Until Dawn, The Last of Us, The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC, The Last of Us Part II, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard VR, Telltale Game's: The Walking Dead Franchise, Detroit: Become Human, Beyond Two Souls, Batman the Telltale Series Franchise, Danganropa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganropa: Goodbye Desire, Heavy Rain, Telltale Game's: The Wolf Among Us, Corpse Party, Mortal Kombat 11, Bully: Scholarship Edition, Doki Doki Literature Club, Yakuza 0, Square Enix's: Life is Strange Franchise, Marvel's Spider-Man, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, The Northbury Grove Saga, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, & Resident Evil (2020), Little Nightmares Franchise, & The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope. Twitch[edit]
After noticing the failures that YouTube had not fulfilled, in reference to monetization, Berlin created another channel, except on Twitch, except he performs under his original channel's name, Berleezy. Initially, he streamed more often, as he wanted to perfect it, and make it everything that his original channels were and were not.
P. EEZY[edit]
In addition to gaming content, Berlin hosts a few other events on his live-streaming page. One of which was a program he called, P. EEZY, which was created during the 1st wave of the COVID-19 quarantine, to boost physical excellence while many were occupying their homes for most of the day, incentivized by working out with one of their favorite Youtubers. In this regimen, he found home workout videos that didn't require any equipment on YouTube and streamed them to his audience encouraging them to work out with him. Over 1,000 people viewers streamed Berlin's workout routines, which at the time, happened on Tuesday's and Thursday's each week, and eventually whenever he wanted to do it. Unfortunately, the cycle of workouts ended after Berlin had injured his foot, preventing him from, "putting 100% [effort] into the workout".
Friday Night Toon's[edit]
In a recent splurge of creative idea's , Berlin installed a new series onto his Twitch Channel, of which he records and adds the highlights to Berlin. Friday Night Toon's, or EEZYTOON's, is a series where he watches episodes of his favorite cartoons or cartoons that he had roasted before in his "EXPOSED" series and provides commentary on it, similar to other content commentaries on YouTube. So far, he has done Dexter's Laboratory, Total Drama Island, The Boondocks, Regular Show, Hip Hop Harry, Johnny Bravo, Hey Arnold, & Spongebob.
Movie Night With Berlin[edit]
Earlier this year, Berlin hosted movie nights with his audience, streamed onto his twitch channel.
Grand Theft Eezy[edit]
In collaboration with Rico The Giant, PG, ImDontai, Berlin began a brief four episode series called Grand Theft Eezy, streamed on his Twitch, and recorded his highlights onto his gaming channel. He and his party played in a role-playing server on Grand Theft Auto, attempting to grow an artificial narcotic business, while protecting themselves against oppositional forces.
Terminology[edit]
Berlin will often say one of these sayings in his videos.
Eugh[edit]
Berlin's most infamous phrase, Eugh, is an extremely versatile word being used to show either excitement, deep understanding, or admiration. The feeling a person is trying to describe can be enhanced by add H's to the end of the word. This word can be used in everyday life, and many of Berlin's subscribers use the term.
Immersed[edit]
As stated before, Berlin uses Immersed to explain the level of focus that he is experiencing while, usually, playing a game. Not as versatile as EUGH, but very important.
EGGs & Eggplants[edit]
In a stream, Berlin creates monikers for his audience. EGG's are a double entendre, as EGG is an acronym for EEZYGANG girls, and also it specifies who the people being referred to are, as a woman's reproductive cells are in fact, eggs. Eggplants are simply innuendos as eggplant is emojinese for a male's reproductive organ, thus identifying who can receive the title.
Let's Get It[edit]
Let's get it, or usually said as, LET'S GET IT, is a phrase not usually used by Berlin anymore, as this was the phrase that began his criticism of each cartoon. However, it is basically the less versatile version of Eugh. Similar to Eugh, the feeling a person is trying to describe can be enhanced through the addition of T's at the end of It.
Shamu Poot's[edit]
This phrase is not usually written but is actually a celebratory phrase, usually whenever Berlin wins a hard game, like the Northbury grove series. The phrase is usually accompanied by, "in the chat", and the viewers will respond by in his channel chat or comment section typing: 🐳💨.
Banyan[edit]
Banyan is another term for marijuana, although Berlin has stated he has stopped smoking
Who need it, I got it[edit]
Who need it, I got it, is another non-recurrent saying that Berlin uses. Often whenever he was playing a fighting game or had a weapon then he would say this to taunt any attackers, as if they could hear him. However, he doesn't use this anymore and says that instead, I'm here will replace the phrase.
I'm like[edit]
I'm like is one of Berlin's most common phrases on his channel, as he uses it in almost any instance where he is providing commentary. Also very versatile, I'm like means basically nothing, and is really just a thing that he says.
Wasss good y'all. Welcome back[edit]
This is a phrase repeated in at least 95% of every one of Berleezy's videos, and in 98% of his iBerleezy videos. This is Berlin's most important phrase as it is the greeting to the viewers who are watching the video. Similar to Eugh, and Let's get it, this phrase can be amplified in hype by screaming the words, and is usually an indicator of how enthusiastic he is feeling in his videos.
Ima let it slide[edit]
Easily one of Berlin's most popular sayings, Ima Let it Slide, was a common phrase he would repeat in his EXPOSED videos, mostly whenever he was steering away from the current topic he was criticizing. Not as versatile as the other phrases and terms, but it still is a great indicator of Berlin's hype, and can be amplified in enthusiasm by adding E's to the end of slide.
Personal Life[edit]
Berlin is the son of Berlin Edmond Sr. and his mother, Regina. He is the youngest of three, and has two sisters, Brooklyn and Brittani, and a niece named Brazil. His parents divorced when he was young [5]. However, Berlin is still close with his father, and in fact, states that he and his father used to share "experiences" together[6]. Growing up he had aspirations to become an elementary English Teacher, and graduated an english major from Cypress College.
Although he grew up in California, Berlin moved several times, most notably to Texas, to live with his friends, Joe, and Mark.[7]. However, Berlin currently owns a home by himself in Austin, Texas. [8].
Collaborations[edit]
Throughout his Youtube career, Berlin has had many collaborations with many very prominent youtubers. His first big collaboration was on June 22, 2016, with ChinoAlphaWolf. They challenged each other to a recent trend called "I Dare you" in a local mall.
His first collab on his channel with ImDontai was in a Friday the 13: The Game match, where he played with several other YouTubers, including Dwayne N Jazz, which was also his first collaboration with them. While Dwayne N Jazz are not often recurrent YouTubers on the channel, ImDontai frequently habits on iBerleezy, in additional collaborations.
Berlin's first collaboration on his channel with Rico The Giant was a Twitch stream, where he invited Rico to play a game with him and PG. Similar to ImDontai, Rico The Giant is also a recurring figure on Berlin's iBerleezy channel.
In the same video that Berlin had his first collaboration on his channel with Dwayne N Jazz and ImDontai, he had his first collaborative video -of which Berlin was playing with him- with PG. However, previously, Berlin had recruited PG to edit videos for him, until he stopped editing.
Reality Checks[edit]
On May 9, 2016, NemRaps, uploaded a video to his channel reacting to an exposed on Berlin's channel, SCOOBY DOO: EXPOSED. Irate due to the creator essentially not reacting to the video, Berlin left a comment under the video saying, "This was wack bruh, take a joke. I hope this video gets thumbs down lol"[9]. Under the comment, NemRaps replied cryptically, asking his audience, "should I get him", to which Berlin replied, "you should get some creativity. You laugh you lose?"
A few weeks later, NemRaps created a diss track, making fun of Berlin about everything he could, scrutinizing of his schooling, his age, & the size of his forehead at the time. Berlin did not find this funny, and as a result, made a video talking specifically about the situation, while also making light of it all, and hiding his actual feelings toward the diss. In the video, he states that he would not have reacted the way he would've, had NemRaps not have said, "Now before you start spreading some hate, just realize, this was a friendly roast between two roasters... To be honest, I actually do like his videos. That's ironic" [10], although Berlin had not yet retaliated with a diss-track yet, making the former part of the claim inaccurate. After hearing this, Berlin replied with his iconic line, "I don't do diss tracks, I do reality checks" [9], and proceeded to retaliate with a diss track.
Berlin's diss track worked differently, and while he still did make fun, and equally retaliate against NemRaps, roasting his head, and his build, he also reversed his opponent's lyrics against him, in an attempt to defend himself, and explain that the situation was pointless, with lines like, "If my hairs receding, then yo s**** dissolving", or "Get a f*****' job if you so educated, on YouTube taking vids you ain't created" [9].
In the end, Berlin is highly regarded as the winner of the roast, despite there not being a competition, with 104k likes on his video, and no likes on NemRap's. While many believe that Berlin won the roast, he remains modest and asks for the "Beef" to subside.
