Bernard Baissait (born October 6, 1948[1][2][3] at Samoreau, Seine-et-Marne) is a french graphic designer [4][5], former member of Alliance Graphique Internationale[6][7].

Biography[edit]

After studying at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, Bernard Baissait went to Visuel Design, the graphic design studio of Jean Widmer in 1975.


En 1983, with Philippe Cazal, he is the creator and publisher of the magazine Public[8]

In 1985, he co-founded his own company Minium, which he left in 1990, to found his own design company La Compagnie Bernard Baissait and until 2007.'[9]

In 1998, he became a professor at the Penninghen, a position he still holds. He directed the thesis of Vahram Muratyan and had as students the artist duo Nøne Futbol Club.

He created in 2013 with Michel Wlassikoff, art historian, the association signes which aims to promote graphic design and typography[10]

He is the father of the artist and web-designer Victor Baissait[11]

During his career, Bernard Baissait worked for cultural institutions (museums, galleries and other cultural institutions), publishers, RATP [12]… he works for the Association française d'action artistique [12], the Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris [13] · [14] · [15], les châteaux de la Drôme[15], Electra, la Fondation électricité de France[15], Centre Pompidou[15][16], Caisse des dépôts et consignations, Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand[15], Mobilier national, manufacture des Gobelins[15], Mouton Rothschild[15], Cinémathèque de Toulouse[15], Tokyo Kumagaï[15] , le ministère de la Culture et de la Communication[15], l'institut Lumière[17].

Awards[edit]

He has received several awards from the club des directeurs artistiques.[18] · [19].

He is a former member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale[6]. He left after disagreements..

Highlights[edit]

Bernard Baissait created the logo of the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris[15], the layout of the books of the cabinet d'art graphique au Centre Pompidou[15], the first catalogs and the logo of the Magasin, le centre d'art contemporain de Grenoble, and for more than 15 years the posters of the Espace Foundation EDF.

In 2013, he created the poster of « Jardins, Jardin »[20].

It made realized by the students of École supérieure d'arts graphiques Penninghen in 2012[21] of the Haute École d'art et de design Genève and 2013[22] the greetings cards on the digital screens of the metro and RER[21].
