Bernardo Villamil Marrací (18 November 1851 – 24 October 1936) was a Cuban-born painter and stockbroker who lived and worked in Spain. He was active in the Spanish art scene in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, participating in national and regional exhibitions.
Biography
Villamil was born in Havana, Cuba, on 18 November 1851.[1] He later moved to Madrid, Spain, where he studied painting under Francisco Mendoza and Carlos de Haes, a noted landscape painter.[2]
Villamil exhibited works at several important Spanish art events. At the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes of 1878, he presented Cercanías de Madrid. In the 1881 exhibition, he exhibited several works, including Orillas de Balsain, Las pasaderas, and Un puente de Balsain.[2] He also participated in exhibitions organized by the Círculo de Bellas Artes in 1880 and 1883, as well as one initiated by Vicente Hernández in 1882.[1]
He married María de la Concepción de la Torre Rauri y Olivares, though details about their family or descendants are not widely documented.[2]
One of Villamil's works, titled Paisaje, is part of the collection at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.[3] His work is also referenced in national art catalogs, such as those of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Badajoz.[4]
Outside of his artistic pursuits, Villamil worked professionally as a stockbroker in Madrid. He died in Madrid on 24 October 1936, aged 84.[1]
