Bernice Van Eck

Bernice Van Eck is a South African author[1], fashion consultant[2], international coach[3] and former professional ballet dancer. Alongside working with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg[4] for ending tobacco smoking globally, Bernice is also an advocate of anti-bullying[5] and Veganism.[6]

Early Life[edit]

Bernice was born in Kimberly, South Africa and later moved to Cape Town at 8 years old. She was a Ballerina for 16 years, receiving a diploma in Performing Arts at the University of Cape Town. At her peak she performed in London at Sadler's Wells for a large audience including Katharine, Duchess of Kent. Later she spent the following 25 years traveling to all the top fashion fairs globally and has dressed some of the most influential business men and celebrities in the world.[7]

Celebrity Relations[edit]

Having attended numerous high-profile events, Bernice has met and worked alongside many top businessmen, Actors, royalty and fashion models including: Michael Bloomberg[8], Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, HRH Prince Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, HRH Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Richard Branson.

Accident[edit]

In September 2006, Bernice was dining at a restaurant in Cape Town when a 3.5 meter canopy pole collapsed on Bernice's head causing a blackouts, concussion, amnesia and a clinical death for a few minutes. Ongoing symptoms continued for several years as well as a court battle with a restaurant.[9] The court finally settled in Bernice's favor in 2012.

Aftermath and Veganism[edit]

The pole accident had a profound effect on Bernice. She was unable to travel and work, having blackouts which caused her to temporarily put a halt on her career. She suddenly shifted her focus on personal life coaching and more recently Veganism after a live pig fell out of a truck en route to a slaughter house in front of her while she was driving. She attempted to purchase the injured pig, but it was already sold to the slaughterhouse. Since then Bernice has been a strong advocate of veganism and is author of a Vegan Cookbook.[10]
