Berta Barbet

Berta Barbet (born in 1986) is a Politics Professor and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the Department of Politics and Public Law. She focuses her research on how context influences political behaviour and opinions. Some of the questions that describe her latest lines of research are "How do discourses affect opinions?", "How do neighbours affect participation?" or "How do party strategies influence voters' perceptions?"[1]

Education[edit]

Before attending University Barbet studied in a town close to Barcelona, Santa María de Palautordera. In September of 2004, she attended the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, obtaining in 2008 a BA in Political Science and Public Administration. She then went on to study a MA in Political Marketing: Communication and Strategy in Politics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she graduated in September 2010. From October 2011 to September 2012 she got a second MA in Political Behaviour at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom. In May 2016 she completed her PhD at the University of Leicester (UK) in Politics and International Relations. Her research project was named Issues, party strategies and voter behaviour: a dynamic approach and explored the variations of the issues parties discuss in electoral contexts and how this affects the voters behaviours. Nowadays, she’s a Politics Professor and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the Department of Politics and Public Law.

Career[edit]

She has taught at University of Leicester as an assistant at the Department of Politics and International Relations; as well as Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis. She has also been an associate lecturer at the University of Barcelona (Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science). Her last workplace as a teacher is established at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona at the Political Science Department and International Relations.

Barbet also collaborates with different media companies and organisations publishing articles, such as AECPA. Since 2016 she has been an editor in Politikon, an independent analysis group focused on different political issues, policymaking, etc. Its goal would be looking at reality from an analytic perspective in order to debate proposals to make society progress.
