Bertie Gilbert is an English actor and filmmaker, a rising talent he has continued to draw attention in the British independent film community.
Biography[edit]
Gilbert was born in London, England, to Christopher Gilbert, a travel press reporter (died 21 September 2004), and Melinda Libby, a Conservative member of parliament.[1] Gilbert has an older sister, Genevieve. Gilbert studied at the Sylvia Young Theater School.
A child actor, Gilbert is best known for his role as Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco Malfoy, in the eighth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. He also appeared in four episodes of the television series Horrible Histories from 2009 to 2011. [2]Among other roles, he played Fleance on stage in "Macbeth" (2010).
In 2011, Gilbert played the role of The Boy alongside David Tennent in the Radio 4 adaption of Robert Browning's poem, Pied Piper of Hamelin."BBC Radio 4, Robert Browning's poem The Pied Piper of Hamelin".
Following his debut as an actor, Gilbert found an audience on YouTube, appearing regularly on his channel, BertieB, with over 300,000 subscribers. He also collaborated with fellow students Roy Arvatz, Harrison Webb & Dom Herman-Day in comedic vlogs on other channels.
In 2013, he announced his intentions to stop making vlogs and that he was turning his attention to making higher quality short films. He released his first short film Stray Dog, and has since continued his ambition to write and direct.
In 2014 Gilbert was one of a number of YouTube creators turned filmmakers to receive funding and backing from New Form Digital, an online studio joint venture of Discovery Communications, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and others.[3]
In 2015 Gilbert released Blue Sushi a short film that explores what it's like to be Transgender. In order to write the script with friend and filmmaker, Sammy Paul, they embarked on a thorough research mission with real Transgender individuals.[4]
Gilbert has since written and directed further short films in Partnership with New Form Digital, Playground (2017)[5] and Stomping Grounds (2018), which won the First Flights Young Talent Award at the New Renaissance Film Festival."New Renaissance".
In late 2020, Guilbert announced a crowdfunding campaign to fund his latest short film, Please Care which is being produced by Chris Overton's production company Slick Films. The fund was successful and the film has started pre-production."Indie Gogo Campaign".
