Besim Morina (MD, MSc, PhD) is a Kosovar pulmonologist and internist.[1]. He works at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK) and serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Prishtina[2]. His clinical and research focus is on respiratory diseases, pulmonary function, and the health effects of smoking[3][4][5][6][7].
Early life and education
Besim Morina was born in 19 February 1981 in Ratkoc[8]. He studied medicine at the University of Prishtina. In 2015, he completed his specialization in pulmonology[9]. He later obtained a Master's degree in Health Management and earned a PhD in Medicine[10][11].
Career
Following his specialization, Besim Morina began working as a pulmonologist at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo. Alongside his clinical practice, he is active in teaching and research[2].
- Besim Morina is the Executive Director of the Association of Pulmonologists of Kosovo (ASPUKO)[12], a registered non-governmental organization in Kosovo that represents Kosovar Pulmonologists.[13] ASPUKO is a recognized partner society of the European Respiratory Society.[14]

- In 2024, he presented at the European Respiratory Society Congress, with a study on clinical characteristics and functional parameters in smokers with preserved FEV1/FVC ratio.[4]

Public outreach
Besim Morina has been interviewed by multiple media outlets regarding respiratory health in Kosovo. In an interview, he discussed the prevalence of chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma, highlighting the impact of smoking and post-COVID respiratory issues.[17] During the COVID-19 pandemic, he described the challenges faced at UCCK, including staff shortages and treating patients in corridors, in an interview with Telegrafi.[18] He has also spoken about long-term respiratory complications following COVID-19 recovery in Koha Ditore.[19] Dr. Morina has also appeared in Kosovar media to raise awareness about respiratory health. He has discussed air pollution as a major factor in respiratory diseases[20] and warned about the risks of smoking, stating that "most patients in Pulmonology have diseases caused by smoking."[21]

Dr. Besim Morina has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in the fields of pulmonology and internal medicine.
