Beth Lane (born 1963) is an American actress, singer, writer, director and producer, known for her award-wining feature documentary film, UnBroken: Would You Hide Me?.[1] She ran an interior design firm, UnCommon Interiors from 1998 - 2015, has served on the Women’s Council of the Children’s Burn Foundation since 2010 and is the President of the Weber Family Arts Foundation,[2] a not-for profit organization that advocates to combat antisemitism through the arts.[3]
Early life[edit]
Beth is the second child born to Holocaust survivor and award winning dancer, choreographer and disability rights activist Ginger Speigel Lane, née Bela Weber, and retired attorney Frederic S. Lane. She has an older brother and younger sister. Beth was raised in Chicago.[4]
Career[edit]
Beth performed in commercials, film, theatre, jazz clubs and stand up comedy before moving to Los Angeles in 2007 when she was cast as Sara Jane Moore in the West Coast Ensemble production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins which won the Los Angeles Critics’ Award for Best Ensemble.[5]
Beth received her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre at the University of California, Los Angeles.[6] She acted in Francis Ford Coppola’s proof of concept live broadcast, “Distant Vision,” and studied movement with Jean-Louis Rodrigue, directing with Brian Kite and documentary film with Kristy Guevera Flanagan and Kathy Huang where UnBroken went into pre-production.[7]
Beth’s directorial debut was honored at the 32nd Annual Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana winning Best Documentary Feature Premiere,[8][9] where UnBroken had its World Premiere on October 8, 2023.[10][11] The West Coast and California premiere took place on October 13, 2023 at the 24th Annual Newport Beach Film Festival.[12][13] The 14th annual DOC NYC Film Festival will hosted the NYC premiere on November 12-13, 2023.[14][15][16]
