Betontod is a German punk band from Rheinberg, active since 1990.
Founding: The history of the band began in a warm summer night on a park bench where four friends met every evening to philosophize about the further course of the evening, but this evening was different, each of them noticed it, something was in the air, an idea swirled in the guys' heads, it was the idea of a band, but not just any, a punk-rock band. The founding members at this time were Eule (guitar), Nase (drums), and Alex (bass). Inspired by punk bands like the Sex Pistols, Slime, Die Toten Hosen, Die Goldenen Zitronen, it seemed like a logical consequence to the three teenagers to start their own punk band. The band was initially called "Extrem", but when Mawoj joined as the second guitarist and Meister as lead singer, the band changed its name to "Sniffin'Kills", under which they also performed their first concert. However, this name was not meant to last and after a long search for a new name and several votes within the band, they finally decided on the name BETONTOD. The name was discovered and proposed by guitarist Mawoj who found it under a bridge towards Moers.
1993: The band played in this lineup for 2 years and recorded several demo recordings, including "Betontod Nieder mit dem Verstand". After the departure of bassist Alex and guitarist Mawoj at the end of 1992, the band was forced to search for replacements. The band was complemented by Ado on bass and Rainer (Fahnenflucht) on guitar. Another demo recording, "Betontod Mein Fahrrad," was recorded in this period. The departed guitarist Mawoj started his own band called "Destruction Bonn".
1995: But this was not the last change, in 1994, Karsten Kirchholtes unexpectedly left the band, and the search for a suitable replacement started. At the beginning of 1995, the lineup was reinforced once again. With Kralle on the drums, the band started again, wrote more songs and played all the concerts they could get in this time. After enough song material was available, they rented a mobile studio and recorded the first new songs in the band's rehearsal room. These songs can be found today on the demo cassette "Die Zeit der Helden," which was published and distributed by Suppenkazper Noize Imperium.
1998: Some of these songs can also be found on the split single "Scheiße," which was released and distributed by Diebesgut Records in 1997. During this time, the band sent out demo tapes to various labels, but no success was apparent and the band remained in the rehearsal room, working on their songs. In the beginning of 1998, they went to Whiteline Studio, where five songs were recorded. These studio recordings were sent out again, but this time the band was more successful than last time. With a deal at Impact-Records in hand, they went back to Whiteline Studio at the end of 1998 to complete their album.
BETONTOD continued to tour and perform, and they established themselves as one of the leading acts in the German punk rock scene. In the following years, they released several more albums, including "Einsamkeit macht krank" (2002), "Viva Punk!" (2004), "Kaltes Herz" (2006), and "Nichts ist für immer" (2009). They also continued to play live shows, both in Germany and abroad, and they became known for their energetic and passionate performances.
In addition to their musical activities, BETONTOD has also been involved in various political and social causes over the years. They have used their music and platform to raise awareness about issues such as animal rights, environmental protection, and human rights, and they have supported various charitable organizations.
