From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Better in Belize EcoVillage is an eco-friendly, off-grid community located in a 132-acre tropical rainforest in the Cayo District of Western Belize in Central America. The Belize ecovillage is situated in the foothills of the Maya mountains,10.5 miles southeast of Benque Viejo Del Carmen on the Mollejon road.

One of the highlights of Better in Belize is its location along the Macal River, one of Belize's major rivers. Better in Belize is situated along Vaca Lake, a man-made reservoir formed by two dams. The Mollejon Dam is downriver and the Vaca Dam is upriver. The six-mile long waterhole on the Vaca Plateau is 500 meters above sea-level.[1][not in citation given] The Macal River runs through the rocky portion of the Maya Mountains joining the Mopan River that flows to join and form the Belize River. There are several branches to the Macal River including streams such as Cacao Camp, Mollejon, Privassion, Rio Frio, and Rio On. There are also three waterfalls located near the community that are ideal for swimming – the Rio Frio Waterfalls, Sandpaper Waterfalls, and the Twin Waterfalls.

This Belize off-the-grid community features sustainable architecture such as earthbag construction, tiny homes, solar-powered bungalows, wattle and daub homes, cozy casitas, rainforest cottages, geodesic dome homes, and abodes with palapa roofs.

Distinct flora in Better in Belize Eco-Village includes trees such as mahogany, which is Belize's national tree,[2] broadleaf trees, logwood, chicle, sapodilla, gumbo limbo, ramon, acacia, copal, coconut, cohune, and numerous palm trees. Countless flower species grow in the area including over 250 indigenous species of orchids such as the Black Orchid, Belize's national flower, and many medicinal plants that were once used by the ancient Mayas.
