Bey Logan

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Bey Logan is a British-born writer, filmmaker and (self proclaimed) Hong Kong movie expert. He (a former employee of Harvey Weinstein) was accused by several actresses of sexual misconduct..[1][2][3][4]

Before this, he was known for his audio commentaries of Hong Kong movies featured on DVD labels such as Hong Kong Legends & Dragon Dynasty.

He has also participated in the production of various movies including "The Medallion", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2" and "The Blood Bond".

Moving to Hong Kong[edit]

Logan relocated to Hong Kong in the mid 1990s. An attempt to produce an English-language action movie Tiger Storm, starring Gary Daniels was scuppered when finances fell through. The project was later resurrected and filmed as White Tiger[5] in Canada without Logan's involvement. After Tiger Storm fell through, Logan was offered an acting part in Circus Kids - a low budget Hong Kong movie starring Donnie Yen .

Media Asia[edit]

Logan was employed by Media Asia in 1997. During his employment there he worked on the documentaries Jackie Chan: My Story & Jackie Chan My Stunts as well as the feature films Gen X Cops & Gen Y Cops.

Emperor Group[edit]

After leaving Media Asia Logan joined Emperor Movie Group, owned by Hong Kong businessman (with suspected Triad links[6]) Albert Yeung.

While at EMG Logan worked as a writer on the Jackie Chan film The Medallion.

The Blood Bond[edit]

Logan wrote and produced the low budget action film The Blood Bond, directed by Michael Biehn. Biehn was vocal about his dissatisfaction in making the movie[7] . "the producer (Bey Logan) decided that he was going to cut the movie and he was going to do all of the Post Production and never give me a chance to cut my own movie. I was so busy when I was working on the movie putting in like twelve and fifteen hour days and doing everybody's job for them. I had a couple of people who knew what they were doing, but not very many. So, he took over the movie and he cut it and put the music on and went and did all of the sound... and that's that, really. "

The film was released as "Shadowguard" in Asia and had one of the lowest box office takes of 2011.

Hong Kong Action Cinema[edit]

In 1996 Logan's book Hong Kong Action Cinema was published.

DVD & Special Features[edit]

In the early to mid 2000s Logan contributed audio commentaries to many DVD releases of UK label Hong Kong Legends. If was during his time working for Hong Kong Legends that Logan began to be referred to as a "Hong Kong Movie Expert". Logan's commentaries were usually very well regarded by both genre fans and film critics alike. Empire Magazine named Logan one of its “Top 10 DVD Heroes”.

After Logan's involvement in the MeToo scandal, several DVD & Blu-ray companies elected to drop his commentaries from their releases. The Eureka Blu-ray releases of Project A , Wheels on Meals and

Police Story feature many special features from the Hong Kong Legends DVDs, but those involving Logan were not used.

Harvey Weinstein Scandal[edit]

Bey Logan was at one time an employee of The Weinstein Company and in that capacity worked on the DVD label Dragon Dynasty as well as the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2. Harvey Weinstein referred to Logan as his friend[8]. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein Scandal it was reported that Bey Logan had acted as an enabler to Weinstein - arranging for aspiring actors and models to meet Weinstein when he was in Hong Kong[9][10]

In December 2017 the online news site HK101 carried several stories following an investigation into Bey Logan by journalist Selina Cheng. The reporting included accounts from seven actresses accusing Logan of sexual misconduct. Actress Sable Yu recalled Logan grabbing her nipple on set, and at another time exposing himself to her[11] . Another actress recounted waking up in a hotel bed to find Logan attempting to perform oral sex on her. One actress recalled being forcibly kissed and pinned down by Logan.[12]

Post Scandal[edit]

In the light of the scandal, Logan's name was removed from the credits of the Steven Seagal movie Attrition.

Logan has since worked on several ultra low budget productions in Mainland China (where the Weinstein scandal was not a major news story), and runs an internet business Reel East selling Hong Kong movie memorabilia.

After the HK101 story broke, Bey Logan released a statement expressing his need to "now step back and take time to reflect on my behavior and the values which I should uphold.”[13]
