Beyond Analysis

Beyond Analysis is an international business management consultancy specialising in data automation and analytics.[1] It is a leading provider of data commercialisation and insight services across a plethora of sectors including retail, financial services and travel.

Company

BA is headquartered in Wimbledon, London.[2] The company’s main slate of products is made up of its ‘Quick & Easy’ platform. This cloud-based platform ingests data, automates the analytics and visualises real-time data in various formats and levels of detail for access by employees across a business with the objective of optimising productivity.

BA supplement their data automation services with consulting and business insight gleaned from advanced data analytics based on artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.

History

Beyond Analysis was founded in 2007 by Paul Alexander and William Beresford.[3] Following successful careers in the advertising and media industry, the pair started the company with the vision of harnessing the vital and growing resource of big data to boost business productivity.

Alexander gained experience in data through his role as Head of Consumer Markets for dunnhumby, during which he headed up the team responsible for analysing and managing the data generated by the Tesco Clubcard loyalty programme.

Beresford had previously worked in the digital space with McKinsey and Leo Burnett before heading up the Non-Grocery Retail Sector for dunnhumby.

The inspiration for the business became the ability to offer such a level of insight through data to non-grocers lacking the benefit of a loyalty programme.

In 2008, Beyond Analysis acquired Enzyme Insight Solutions, a customer engagement agency based in Sydney, Australia. This became the first subsidiary of the business, Beyond Analysis Australia. The acquisition was designed to allow Beyond Analysis to ‘tap into an excellent delivering capability and a large pool of data analysis talent within the country.’[4]

In 2018, BA’s Global Head of Insight established a new office based in Vilnius, Lithuania, outsourcing the majority of the business’s data analytics work to a team of data analysts focused on developing the company’s AI and machine learning capabilities.

Partnerships & Investment

Visa

Beyond Analysis began working with Visa Europe in 2008, cleansing and sorting through Visa’s vast array of data sets to create a transactional database from which to gain insight into consumer spending patterns.

In November 2011, Visa Europe took a minority stake in the business. As part of the investment, the Chief Marketing Officer, Mariano Dima, joined the Beyond Analysis Board. Their work together included using data insight to manage various loyalty programmes as well as allowing banks and retailers to segment and target their marketing efforts.[5]

In 2017, after six years of partnership, Beyond Analysis bought back Visa’s shares in the business, having chosen to ‘use its autonomy to generate data insight from across the financial services industry.’[6]

STW

In 2013, the advertising and marketing group STW, now WPP AUNZ, invested in Beyond Analysis Australia, buying them a minority stake in the business. CEO Michael Connaghan spoke of the partnership, remarking: ‘the potential to provide ever more sophisticated and effective marketing for our clients has made data a top priority at STW.’[7]

PwC

In 2017, Beyond Analysis entered into a partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers, a Big Four professional services firm. The aim of the partnership was to combine PwC’s strong retail client base with the advanced data analytics capabilities of Beyond Analysis, generating insight across the retail and financial services, with the plan to later expand into the travel, tourism and media industries.

Megan Higgins, Director of Customer and Retail Analytics at PwC, commented: ‘We are always striving to do what we can to help our clients become more effective and efficient and that means adding value to what they do. I believe that the agreement reached with Beyond Analysis will allow us to leverage distinct advantages for our clients.’[8]
