Bezalel [beh-za-lel] is a startup company that manufactures a variety of wireless charging accessories for mobile devices using the Qi_standard[1].
History[edit]
In October 2013, Bezalel was founded by a USC engineering student Frank Wu[2]. By November of the same year, Bezalel started creating consumer wireless charging systems, starting with the creation of the prototype for their first product, the Prelude portable wireless charger (initially named Ark)[3][4].
In January 2014, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Ark[5][6] and raised more than $131,000 from almost 1,700 backers, successfully surpassing their goal of $35,000[7]. Bezalel was featured in popular media websites like TechCrunch as it ranked first out of 7,000 other Kickstarter projects during its run[8]. Buzzfeed, PCR, and SiliconIndia also named it one of the top 10 campaigns on Kickstarter[9][10][11].
In February 2015, Bezalel presented at the Viterbi Startup Garage Demo Day[12] and announced their success in raising more than $830,000 from investors as the company continued to generate over $750,000 in Prelude sales.
In November 2015, Bezalel launched their second Kickstarter campaign for the Latitude[13],a universal wireless charging case for earlier iPhone models that don’t have built-in wireless charging capabilities[14].
In January 2016, Wu was named one of the Top 10 Next Generation Leaders by CSQ – C-Suite Quarterly Magazine[15], along with the debut of the Latitude at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada[16]. The following month, it was launched commercially on the Bezalel website and Amazon.
In October 2017, Business Insider commended the company for bringing “one of the iPhone 8's biggest features to the iPhone 7."[17] In January 2018, Business Insider picked one of Bezalel’s products as one of the "best wireless chargers for your iPhone 8, iPhone X, or Android phone."[18]
In June 2018, MilTech named Bezalel as one of the top players in the global wireless charging market, according to a forecast by QYReports[19].
