Bezalel [beh-za-lel] is a startup company that manufactures a variety of wireless charging accessories for mobile devices using the Qi_standard[1].
History
In October 2013, Bezalel was founded by USC engineering student Frank Wu[2]. By November of the same year, Bezalel began creating consumer wireless charging systems, starting with a prototype for its first product, the Prelude portable wireless charger (initially named Ark)[3][4].
In January 2014, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Ark[5][6] and raised more than $131,000 from almost 1,700 backers, exceeding its goal of $35,000[7]. Bezalel was featured in popular media websites such as TechCrunch for ranking first among approximately 7,000 other Kickstarter projects[8]. Buzzfeed, PCR, and SiliconIndia also listed it among the top 10 Kickstarter campaigns[9][10][11].
In February 2015, Bezalel presented at the Viterbi Startup Garage Demo Day[12] and announced raising more than $830,000 from investors, while generating over $750,000 in Prelude sales.
In November 2015, Bezalel launched its second Kickstarter campaign for the Latitude[13], a universal wireless charging case for older iPhone models lacking built-in wireless charging capabilities[14].
In January 2016, Wu was named one of the Top 10 Next Generation Leaders by CSQ – C-Suite Quarterly Magazine[15], coinciding with the Latitude's debut at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada[16]. The following month, it launched commercially on the Bezalel website and Amazon.
In October 2017, Business Insider praised the company for bringing "one of the iPhone 8's biggest features to the iPhone 7."[17] In January 2018, Business Insider selected one of Bezalel’s products as one of the "best wireless chargers for your iPhone 8, iPhone X, or Android phone."[18]
In June 2018, MilTech named Bezalel among the top players in the global wireless charging market, according to a QYReports forecast[19].
