Bhaswar Bandopadhyay PhD, also known as Bhaswar Banerjee is a renowned Reciter, Actor, Voice & Speech Trainer, Media Trainer and Theater Director from Bangladesh. After retiring as Director of National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) he is now working as Adjunct Faculty of Department of Film and Media Studies[1], Stamford University. Dr. Bhaswar Banerjee won the second highest state honor "Ekushey Padak 2021" for recitation.[2]

Education

He has graduated from the National School of Drama at New Delhi, India, with a three years Special Diploma Degree in Dramatics and placed in first class. He has completed his Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University and Ph. D in Dramatics from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, India.

Career

He acted in many stage dramas and productions and is working as a regular stage actor. He is a regular performer of Bangladesh Television from 1976. Regular Drama Artist in Bangladesh Betar from 1972. Directed several plays and is working as a Free Lance Director. He directed Antigone, Oedipus, Raktokarobi, Raja, Bish Brikher Beej, Obhishopto Nagari, Bisharjan, Prothom Partho, Aleek Babu, Jaisa Ka Taisa, Shadhabar Ekadashi, Ekay Ki Bole Shabayata, Budo Shalikher Ghare Ron, Banorer Paa (Monkeys Paw) etc. He also worked as a Costume & Make-Up Designer, Set & Light Designer.

Regularly conducting workshops on Voice & Speech and Recitation with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Regular Theatre Groups, Regular Recitation Groups in all over Bangladesh. He also conducted workshops in London & Moscow. Conducted workshops in Kolkata, Sreerampur, Asansol, Bahrampur, Siliguri, Bardwan in West Bengal.

Worked for one year as a Research Investigator in a project on the Socio-Economic context on significance of Group Theatre Movement in West Bengal sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) in 1981.

After graduating from NSD Dr. Bhaswar Banerjee formed his recitation group Kotha Abritti Chorcha Kendra in 1985. Worked as a News Presenter and News Translator, Actor, Reciter and Programme Presenter in Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and Private TV Channels. Developed courses on Radio & TV programming, News and Mass Communication having 30 years’ experience as Broadcasting Communication Training Instructor.

Participated in Theatre workshops conducted by Roger Croucher & Roger Williams, Clive Barker, Cicely Berry, Peter Brooks and others.

Film Career

Conducted Film Making Courses in NIMC and acted in films Nadir Nam Modhumati, Lalon, Rabeya, Bangla Mayer Damal Chele, Chitkini, Rajputtur, Shuchona Rekhar Dikey and Moner Manush. Worked as Asst. Director with famous Film Director Mr. Alamgir Kabir in the Film Chorasrote produced by NIMC.

Books

Written two books Natya: Swar O Sanglap and Obhignan Natyakatha. Written articles on various aspects of Theatre in Different Journals, Magazines and daily News Papers, Weekly Literary Supplement.[3]
