Bhisma Wijaya Mulia (born 22 December 1996) is an Indonesian actor. He is known for his role as Jatmiko in the film Sobat Ambyar which won him the 2021 Maya Cup and 2021 Indonesian Movie Actors Awards.
Early life[edit]
Bhisma is an only child who grew up in Semarang, Central Java. His father was a volleyball athlete. He studied secondary education at Senior High School 4 Semarang and was active in swimming. Due to a broken right leg accident, he decided not to continue his dream of becoming an athlete.[2]
Since childhood, Bhisma loved watching films which made him interested in the world of cinema. He got his first offer to play in a soap opera when he was in high school. However, he chose to focus on studying until college following the advice of his parents.
After graduating from school, Bhisma continued his studies at the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University. He started his studies in 2012 and graduated in 2016.
Career[edit]
After graduating from law school at Diponegoro University, Bhisma went to Jakarta to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. During the first four months, he took part in the selection of actors at several production houses every day and none of them passed. When he wanted to return to his hometown, he was declared to have passed the cast selection for a car advertisement. Since then, his career began to develop. He has several times played extras in a number of soap opera productions.
In 2017, Bhisma got the role of Aryo in his first soap opera and immediately became the main character. He starred in the soap opera Doomsday Friday, produced by Amanah Langit Production, opposite Kevin Julio and Rifat Sungkar.[3] His name became better known when he played Sam in the soap opera Apace: Anti-Girl Punk Child produced by MNC Pictures a year later.[4] He is also known for starring in the soap opera Uninvited Guest as Indra.[5]
Bhisma made his debut in feature films, playing Hisham in Moonrise Over Egypt which premiered in 2018.[6] In 2020, he was announced as the main character named Jatmiko in the film Sobat Ambyar which is an adaptation of Didi Kempot's songs.[7] Film tersebut ditayangkan sebagai film orisinal Netflix pada tahun 2021. It will premiere as a Netflix original in 2021.[8][9] Bhisma's acting performance in the film won him two awards, namely the 2021 Indonesian Movie Actors Awards for Best Male Lead and the 2021 Maya Cup for Selected Newcomer Actor.[10][11]
Bhisma's career continued by starring in the film Tumbal Musyrik by director Faozan Rizal with Bambang Drias.[12] Previously, he played the role of Dadang in the original RCTI+ film entitled 4 Friends Before the World Turns Over.[13] Bhisma's appearance in the film Friends of Ambyar also caught the attention of the Bumilangit production house, which brought him a role in the premiere web series of Bumilangit Cinematic Universe, Tira.[10][11]
