Białystok dialect - a Polish language dialect characteristic of the inhabitants of Białystok and parts of Podlasie. It is related to the Vilnius dialect. It emerged as a result of the mutual influence of several language patterns: Polish, Belarusian, Lithuanian, to a lesser extent also Russian, Ukrainian, and Yiddish.[1]
Phonetics[edit]
Hushing consonants, such as "ś, ć, dź, ź", are pronounced like sounds of foreign origin. The articulation of the mid-palatal consonants is prepalatal, directed more towards the front (resulting in a soft consonant sound).
