Bikram Ahir
Bikram Ahir or Vikram Ahir was born at village Bale, Dist. Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.[1][2][3][4][2][5][6][7]
Early life
He hailed from a farmer family of Shri Shivcharan Ahir of Gwalbans Ahir clan in the Bale (Bargo) village. Later, his family migrated to the Dumari village.[2] He was a potent wrestler of the Dumari akhara along with his kinsman, Bhagwan Ahir, his brother, Suryabali Ahir and his son, Neur Ahir.[2]
He was the ex-chaukidar of Dumari who turned into an "active volunteer".[8]
During the events of the first riot, he lost his father and his brother.[9][8]
Impact
Due to his active participation in the riots, the local people i.e., the peasants started admiring and supporting him. The British rule also perceived this assistance of the peasants for Ahir. So, when every volunteer was being punished they took him out of Gorakhpur and punished him in Meerut because they feared his fame and thought that it would lead another riot if they had done so in Gorakhpur.[2]
