Billy Bryant is an American former college basketball player who played as a guard for the Maryland Terrapins[1] and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.[2] Bryant earned Ohio Valley Conference honors as a senior, and was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the fourth round of the 1980 NBA draft.[3][4]
Early life and high school
Billy Bryant was born in Washington, D.C., where he played high school basketball at The John Carroll School and earned recognition on the All-Met (Washington, D.C.).[5][6] In 1976, he was recruited to play with the Maryland Terrapins men's basketball program.[1][7]
College career
Bryant played three seasons at Maryland, from 1976 to 1979.[1][8] In December 1979, he quit Maryland, and transferred to Western Kentucky University, and had to sit out a full year before he was eligible to play for Kentucky.[9] He played under head coach Gene Keady in the 1979–80 season, and as a senior, he led the Hilltoppers in assists and was second in scoring, averaging 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. He shot 52.2 percent from the field and 73.5 percent from the free throw line, earning a spot on the All-Ohio Valley Conference First Team.[8][3]
