William Burton (born 3 September 1956 in Felixstowe, England) is a former motorcycle speedway rider in National League (speedway).[1] He started his career with Boston Barracudas (1974 - 1977, and returning 1983 -1984). A consistent rider, his averages per meeting were 11 (1974), 7.19 (1975), 8.26 (1975), and 6.27 (1976). The proximity of his home track to Kings Lynn saw him called to compete for the Kings Lynn Stars on 26 occasions. Joined Sheffield Tigers in 1977 in a swap for Carl Glover. Had 37 appearances in 1978 but the move was not successful for him, averaging fewer than 3 points per match. His fortunes returned with a move to Stoke Potters in 1979, where he resumed his form with averages of 7.07 and 8.02 (1980).[2]

Once met Billy Burton at Stoke in 1980 as my sporting hero. He amazingly gave me one of his race jackets. So made up. Legend. Thanks Billy.
