Biological Communications is a no-fee open-access peer-reviewed scientific journal subsidized and published by St. Petersburg University Press (Saint Petersburg State University)[1][2][3]. It covers research in all areas of the biological sciences from classical disciplines such as botany and zoology to biotechnology and fundamental medicine.[4][1]

Biological Communications is a re-branded new title of the former scientific journal «Vestnik of Saint Petersburg University. Series 3. Biology» (Russian: Вестник Санкт-Петербургского университета. Серия 3. Биология) first established in 1956 as «Vestnik of Leningrad University. Biology». «Vestnik of SPbU: Biology» was upgraded to an international no-fee open-access journal by its first Editor-in-Chief Dr. Yegor Malashichev.[1][5][3]

Articles of the journal are indexed by several systems: Scopus[6], EBSCO, RSCI, Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, East View, Cyberleninka, eLIBRARY.ru, Publons, ResearchGate, BIOSIS Previews, Zoological Record, Dimensions.[1]
