Bionime[3] is a medical equipment corporation headquartered in TaiChung Taiwan. It mainly focuses on diabetes equipment such as blood glucose monitors. It's main competitors in the global blood glucose monitor market includes Abbott, Roche, Bayer AG, B. Braun Melsungen AG, Nipro Diagnostics Inc., Life Scan Inc.(J&J), Arkray Devices, Nova Biomedical[4]. It has company locations in Switzerland, China, and the US. Bionime also serves as an original design manufacturer for other companies.[5]
As of 2018, Bionime's revenue is split between blood glucose meters (BGMs) (10%), strips (87%), and others (3%). As for geographic sales regions, Europe accounted for 29%, Asia 32%, Americas 9%, and 30% in other territories. It boasts of test strip production capacity of 530 million strips a year.[6] Bionime uses electro-chemical biosensing as its core technology for blood glucose detection, different from other screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) test strips. Its products are mainly marketed under its own brand BIONIME. In addition to its own research and development of embedded precious metal electrodes, it also develops its own fully automatic production equipment, much like other companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
In order to reduce the cost impact of the US medical reform policy, the company cooperated with Sinocare (300298.SZ), the third largest blood glucose testing equipment company in mainland China on February 2014, with Sinocare acquiring 20% stock share for 132 million taiwanese dollars, and the Chinese hospital and retail market channels.
