Biopharm Chemical Co., Ltd. (pronounced /baɪəʊfɑːrm/) is a Thai pharmaceutical merchandising and developing company founded over four decades ago. Biopharm has produced and distributed products to both domestic and international consumers, provided by its own manufacturing company, “Biolab Co., Ltd.,” certified with ISO 9001 and is the first company in Southeast Asia to achieve superior standard manufacturing systems from Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

The company has a variety of products sold in hospitals and department stores, such as Belcid Forte (Antacid), Pantaprol (Antacid), Livalo (Lipid-Lowering), Monem (Antibacterial), etc.

History

• 1974 Biopharm Chemical Co., Ltd. was founded under the motto “Embracing Life”

• 1981 Biolab Co., Ltd. was founded.

• 1991 Became the first company certified by the GMP

• 1999 Biolab was the first pharmaceutical manufacturer certified with ISO 9001 in all systems.

• 2004 Biopharm reached more than 100 product types with a market value of 500 million baht in the company's 30th anniversary.

• 2007 Signed a contract with KOWA, a pharmaceutical manufacturing and merchandising company from Japan, to be the importing and selling representative in Thailand.

• 2008 Made an agreement to be an alliance in exchanging products with Astellas, a Japanese pharmaceutical company.

• 2009-2013 Certified by the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) from Singapore, and won the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standard for four years in a row.

• 2014 Biopharm reached more than 200 product types with a market value of 1,200 million baht in the company's 40th anniversary, and launched the official website www.biopharmshop.com to provide general information and e-commerce service.

• 2015 Certified by the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) from Singapore for the fifth time and entered a new online merchandising channel on the website LAZADA.com.

• 2018 Certified by the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) from Singapore for the sixth time.

• 2019 Celebrated the 45th anniversary of Biopharm Chemicals Co., Ltd.

Lab (Technology)

Biolab is certified with ISO 9001 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) with technologies used in every process as follows:

• Separated manufacturing buildings and quality analysis rooms for Carbapenems drugs and Cephalosporins drugs.

• Fully automated technology used in the laboratory.

• A grading continuity system is applied to maintain the standard of the products.

• Modern technologies are used in pharmaceutical ingredient analysis.

• Double compression tablet technology, making the pharmaceuticals last longer.

• Seminars and factory observations are regularly held to maintain the flow of manufacturing procedures.

CSR and Charity Activities

• “Biopharm’s mobile medicine cupboard” is an annual activity started in 2016 where Biopharm provides medicines to people in different occupational fields to support their health and well-being.

• Biopharm participated as a medical volunteer through Saint Gabriel's Alumni Association on 8 February 2018 at Bo-Ploy, Kanchanaburi, Thailand.

• Biopharm sponsored the Luang Prabang Basketball Club from Laos with its muscle relaxant product ‘Flanil’ for the basketball players.

Code of Conduct

Biopharm Chemical Co., Ltd. developed a code of conduct regarding merchandising and marketing in hospital areas since 2013. It focuses on accountable transactions, aiming at educating medical practitioners professionally. The aim is to be fully responsible for accurate and factual information and knowledge, with the main goal of ensuring all related customers and the company’s employees agree on the code of conduct and adopt it as a principle in pharmaceutical sales and marketing.

On 2 July 2018, Biopharm Chemicals Co., Ltd. announced the activation of its Code of Conduct in pharmaceutical sales and marketing to align with the country’s strategic plan. The company has been developing morality in sales promotion since 2013. Training and evaluation on morality, including moral principle knowledge tests held by the Thai Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (TPMA), were undertaken by all company personnel to build a good understanding of moral principles and to professionally handle the distribution of quality products to consumers.

Certifications and Awards

PIC/S or Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme

PIC/S GMP is an International Conference on Harmonisation of pharmaceutical regulations of the European Medicines Agency. It is a voluntary agreement to follow the same regulations for countries outside Europe, implying that every member country adheres to the same standards as European Union members. In Thailand, the Food and Drug Administration is the 49th member of the PIC/S GMP.

Certification by PIC/S demonstrates compliance with the Thai Food and Drug Administration's policy on authorizing manufacturing processes and system control to meet standards according to the Act of Parliament and resolutions from the relevant legal committees.

EU GMP

Developing Biolab's production standards is a key mission to maintain its position as a leader in the supplement and pharmaceutical market. Biolab is also endorsed by several leading associations, demonstrating its forward-thinking vision and true leadership. The company has continuously improved its production standards to meet the certifications it has obtained since receiving GMP certification from the Food and Drug Committee office in 2009, up to the latest standards certified from Germany.

Thai FDA

The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and well-being of consumers regarding health-related products such as food, drugs, cosmetics, medical tools, household hazardous objects, and community health products. The Thai FDA examines every stage of production, before and after market entry, to ensure consumers receive safe, high-quality products that meet standards. The FDA's policies encourage both large and small entrepreneurs to improve their manufacturing locations to meet legal standards, ensure products are correctly labeled and harmless, advertise lawfully, and act responsibly and ethically.

The Food and Drug Administration Quality Award by the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

In 2009, the Thai FDA launched the Morality Building in Health Product Entrepreneurs project and began awarding the Food and Drug Administration Quality Award to manufacturers meeting moral principles, standards, and safety in health product production. This award recognizes and encourages entrepreneurs who employ ethical practices and prioritizes consumer safety in every stage of production. Since 2009, Biolab has won the FDA Quality Award six times: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2018.
