Birdboy (2010) is an animated short film directed by Alberto Vázquez and Pedro Rivero based on Vázquez's graphic novel Psiconautas (2007) and produced by UniKo, Abrakam Studio, Postoma Studio and Cinemar films.

Plot[edit]

The short film tells the story of two characters, Dinki and Birdboy himself, both united by the fate of their lives. Little Dinki enjoyed a happy childhood; she went to school every day and found a relationship with her parents. But one day that happiness is cut short by a fatal industrial accident in the factory where her father worked. This accident involves the loss of her father figure and, to a certain extent, of her happiness and meaning in life.

On the other hand, Birdboy was a little bird boy isolated from society and afraid to take flight. He had a certain relationship with Dinki since they attended the same school.

With the accident, the population of the city in which they live is decimated. Dinki runs away from her reality and seeks to hide her pain behind a mask and her cynicism, trying to erase her childhood memories. For his part, Birdboy had plunged into the dangerous spiral of drug addiction, seeking in it to escape from the rejection that society feels towards him.

Both find themselves in a world in which they survive trying to alienate themselves from their painful reality, and end up making their desire to escape and their need for support the perfect excuse to unite their lives.
