Biron operates 120 points of service across Quebec and has 780 employees.[1] It operates medical laboratory and diagnostics services, sleep care analysis and treatment, occupational health services, and a network of radiology clinics under the Imagix and Medvue brands. It is ranked as the 184th largest company in Quebec by Les Affaires[2]. It was chosen as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies by Canadian Business and Deloitte in 2017 and 2018[3], and in 2003, it was ranked number 37 in the top 100 Canadian firms managed by women, by Profit and Châtelaine magazines[4]
History
Biron was founded in 1952 by Denis Biron. It remains 100% owned by the Biron family[5]. Its current CEO, Denis’ daughter Geneviève Biron, took over management from her sister Ève-Lyne in 2014[6]. Imagix, a network of radiology clinics founded by Geneviève, is now also partly owned by Biron[7]. Denis Biron passed away on April 19th, 2019. [8]
Acquisitions and development
Starting in 1975, Biron grew by acquisition of other laboratories. In 2018, Biron fully acquired BiogeniQ, a company specializing in personalized genetic profiles[9][10]. It acquired Medvue, a network of private radiology clinics, in 2017[11]. Its medical laboratory received ISO 9002 certification in 1994[12]
Awards and distinctions
- Since 2007, Biron is accredited by Accreditation Canada, following a thorough evaluation process based on best practices. This accreditation is renewed year after year. In 2018, Biron received an honorary mention by Accreditation Canada[13]
- Recognized in 2017, 2018 and 2019 as a Best Managed Company[14]
- Gold medal in the “Family Succession” category, awarded for our succession and growth strategy[15] [16]
- Mercure in the “Entrepreneurship, Succession and Business Transfer” category at the Les Mercuriades competition organized by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec[17]
- Support portal for sleep care AMI received a TELUS Health Award of Merit at the Congrès des services de première ligne in 2017.
