From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Birthday In A Box is an American online retailer that sells party supplies and decorations for birthday parties, holidays, special occasions, and more. The company was founded in 1996 and is based in Edison, New Jersey.[1]. Birthday In A Box, Inc. is a former subsidiary of Kaboose Inc, a family-focused media company that generates revenue from online and offline advertising and online commerce transactions. In 2013, the company was purchased by Costume SuperCenter, LLC.

History

Laurie Wrigley created Birthday in a Box in 1996 in Gaithersburg, Maryland, as a store to provide families with a one-stop shop for hosting parties. With Wrigley’s degree in business and past writing experience, she created birthday boxes that would help moms, like herself, plan their kids’ birthday parties. After putting a sample together and testing it with other moms in the Rockville-area community, she scaled the idea and spent the following six months creating the business she named after her boxes, Birthday In A Box. When the company launched, it offered 18 different themes, and each box included enough tableware and decorations for a celebration of eight attendees. It operated in the catalog and mail-order houses business before going digital as an ecommerce store, BirthdayInABox.com.[2].

In 2013, Birthday In A Box was acquired by Costume SuperCenter, LLC, which was founded by Party City creator, Steve Mandell, and is currently run by his son, Erik Mandell.
