Bitwig Studio is a proprietary commercial Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software application from the Bitwig GmbH company based in Berlin, Germany. It is available for the Windows, macOS and Linux platforms.

The company was founded in 2009 by four software developers who had previously worked at Ableton on Live.[2] After a series of beta versions over multiple years, the 1.0 release of Bitwig Studio was made available in March 2014.[3][4]

Bitwig supports both traditional linear music arrangement and non-linear (clip-based) production. It has multi-monitor and touch screen support. Bitwig is noted in reviews for its strong modulation,[5] and intuitive automation capabilities.[6]

The 2.0 release was made available in February 2017,[7] followed by two point releases later that year.[8][9] The January 2018 issue of Computer Music magazine awarded Bitwig Studio 2 "DAW of the Year" for 2017.[10][11][12]

    2018 saw two further 2.x point releases.[13][14]

In January 2019, Bitwig Studio 3 was announced with the lead new feature being a modular graphical environment for sound design and music production called The Grid, and likened to Native Instruments Reaktor and Cycling '74 Max.[15] Bitwig Studio 3 was showcased at NAMM 2019 and is scheduled for release in 2019 Q2. Bitwig Studio 2.5 was released in March 2019.[16]
