BizOps is a methodology that integrates business and technology functions through data-based decision making.[1][2][3] BizOps leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to create models for decision making that draw from multiple different data sets and generate true business outcomes.[4][5][6] In essence, it combines an organization’s business operations with its technology operations,[2][3][6][7] similar to how DevOps combines an organization’s software development with its IT operations. [5][8]

History[edit]

BizOps initially developed at Yahoo! in the early 2000s. The framework for BizOps  was later refined by Gartner, Inc. in 2014, which referred to it as “Digital BizOps.”[5][9] IDC refers to BizOps to describe cross-functional business teams, but also to describe the extension of DevOps to include business as part of an integrated model.[10]

A coalition of companies produced a BizOps manifesto, published in October 2020. [3][5][6][11] Inspired by the Agile Manifesto, which established principles of agile software development in 2001,[12][13] the BizOps Manifesto outlined principles such as: business outcomes being the primary measure of success, technology investment being aligned with business outcomes, and business and technical teams sharing a common vision and objectives. [14][15]

Applications[edit]

Companies build BizOps teams to ensure alignment across different business functions. Teams employ a BizOps approach to facilitate business growth and profit and to improve customer experience.[16] Key functions for BizOps teams may include observation and assessment of business challenges and opportunities using artificial intelligence and machine learning, prioritization of initiatives, solution innovation and vetting, establishing success metrics, and delivering solutions.[10]
