Black Adam is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name, produced by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is intended to be an installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by, from a screenplay by Adam Sztykiel, and a story by. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, and it will be the first live action theatrical film appearance of the title character.
Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures in RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema and IMAX 3D in 2021.
Synopsis[edit]
The film will follow Black Adam as he fights for freedom from slavery, to protect his people as an anti-hero in ancient Egypt.
Cast[edit]
- Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam / Black Adam: a supervillain and occasional antihero, archenemy of the superhero Shazam. [1]
- Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher: A member of the Justice Society of America (JSA) who can control his molecular structure and manipulate his size and strength.
- Aldis Hodge as Hawkman: An archaeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince and has the power of flight from his Nth metal wings. He is the leader of the JSA.
- Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz: A university professor and resistance fighter in Kahndaq.
- Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone: A member of the JSA and the granddaughter of Red Tornado who can control wind and generate sound.

Development[edit]
Initially set to be introduced in Shazam!, by January 2017 the production studios involved divided the narrative of William "Billy" Batson / Shazam and Black Adam in order to focus on the latter's superhero origin, and downfall into villainy.[2] By October 2017, Adam Sztykiel was hired as the screenwriter.[3] In November 2017, TheWrap reported that the super-villain might be introduced in the Suicide Squad 2 before the solo film.[4] Co-producer Hiram Garcia stated the film will be gritty and violent, similar to the comics.[5]
Casting[edit]
In September 2014, Dwayne Johnson was cast to portray Black Adam in the DC Extended Universe.[6]
Filming[edit]
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late 2019.[7] In April 2018, Johnson said that the script of the film had been completed and it might start filming at the end of 2019, after completing Jumanji 3 and Red Notice.[8]
