Black Angels is the second studio album by the Ukrainian band "Black Angels", led by singer Alex Angel. It contains 8 songs, each accompanied at least by one music video.

Description[edit]

The album is one of the most recognizable by fans all over the world, cause it contains five hits: "Rock'n'Roll Tonight" (offered for Eurovision-2017 selection[1]), "Running for Love" (offered for the Ukrainian Eurovision-2017 onlne wildcard selection[2]), "Love Tonight", "Song for Lovers" and "Lucie". Also these songs (except of Lucie) became the most suitable for describing Sex rock genre, becoming popular after the music videos in 2015 were shot.

Alex with Aelita (2006)

The song "Running for Love" was initially planned to be performed with a strip-dancer Natalia Oleynik, with whom in 2016 Alex attended pre-casting for Eurovision Song Contest 2017, but they didn't pass together, so Alex decided to take part in online wildcard selection, giving the winner a chance to participate in official semi-finals of the Ukrainian casting. Finally Alex recorded a joint version with Lady Gala and finished at the 8-th place of a top-10 songs.

The song "Song for Lovers" was offered for Eurovision 2017 selection in duo with a model Victoria Ahadova[3].

The song "Love Tonight" was often performed with a singer Tatyana Korobochka (TANIA) either on concerts or TV shows. In September, 2016 was announced that they're going to participate as a duo at Eurovision-2017 selection[4].

The song "Lucie" was performed at "Hearts of the three" TV show in 2015. Also this song became a final song in "Easy Life"-"Woman's Fate"-"Lucie" trilogy (even though the 1-st two songs were released a year later). In 2019 the song was dedicated to Aelita (Alla Kudrevych), which died in May, 2019[5], who collaborated with the band and helped with concert organization. When posting the video-collage on facebook profile Alex compared Aelita to Lucy Westenra.

The song "Missing Soldier" was dedicated to Snake (ex-guitarist of the band, murdered in 2005).

Musical genre and sounding[edit]

The album contains from easy pop metal songs ("Song for Lovers") to obvious hard rock ballads ("Lucie", "Missing Soldier"). The songs like "Running for Love", "Love Tonight", "Rock'n'roll Tonight" are melodic enough to resemble an old-school punk rock of 1970-s, which is on the verge of sounding close to hard rock, and performed in a manner close to glamour musicians.

Album cover versions[edit]

The album has four versions of a cover. The official album cover has an advertisement of Oksana Chernaya (Krasnaya), providing a dentist services. The other version advertises Elena's Rudenko (Valteya) salon of magic and mysticism[6]. The third version contains black and white long-hair angels on a gray or black background[7] and the fourth version shows the members of the band, taking part in a record[8].
