Blackened Recordings

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Blackened Recordings is a record label owned by the American heavy metal band Metallica.

History

In 1994, Metallica renegotiated its contract with Warner Music Group and, as a result, gained the rights to all audio and video master recordings which would be returned to the group at the end of 2012. On November 30, 2012, Metallica announced that they were now the sole owners of the music rights and had founded the label Blackened Recordings in order to have full creative control. Rhino Entertainment was announced as the partner for distribution in North America, and Universal Music Group as the partner for international distribution. The first release under the new label was the live DVD Quebec Magnetic.[1][2]

In addition to all subsequent new Metallica releases such as the albums Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016) and S&M2 (2020), the band also reissued their earlier records, such as an anniversary edition of The Black Album in 2021. A tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist, with 53 covers of songs from The Black Album by various artists, was also released that year. Two songs from that album were released as 7-inch singles in January 2022.[3]
