Blasphemi

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Blasphemi is a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Gasser owned by Mike Finnegan. It has been featured on Roadkill, and Finnegan's Garage.[1][2][3]

Blapshemi was built as an homage to the car from Two-Lane Blacktop, and with the intent to irritate Chevrolet and MOPAR fanatics.

Body[edit]

Blashpemi's body started off as the remnants of a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, which showed signs of its age in damage and rust. After being hauled to Jim Meyer Racing in Oregon, and being dropped onto a chassis in September of 2012[1], it spent the next couple years being repaired. Ultimately all rust was removed, and damage repaired. The front fenders, hood, and grill assembly was replaced with a fiberglass front clip, which opens forward, and is secured by hood-pins.[2]

The hood features a transparent scoop, showing off the engine's velocity stacks.

The car was wrapped in satin black, and lettered in gold with "BLASPHEMI" on the quarterpanels. The interior features aluminum racing seats and a gold flake steering wheel.

For the 2017 PRI Trade Show, the roof was painted in a highly detailed, highly flaked gold to match the car's steering wheel.[citation needed]

In order to fit the fiberglass front clip, the front ends of the frame rails had to be shortened.

After a frenzied month leading up to the 2017 Drag Week, Mike Finnegan arrived with minutes to spare at the registration booth, and then waited to see if he and Blasphemi would be able to enter the event. Unfortunately, on day two, Blasphemi's engine dropped a valve, causing the engine to essentially self-destruct, sparing only the supercharger and intake. In the true spirit of Drag Week and Roadkill, Mike Finnegan wrote, "There’s only 360 days to get Blasphemi ready for Drag Week 2018. I may not win but I will finish."[6]
