Blessed Cecilia Butsi

Blessed Cecilia Butsi is a Thai Beati of the Roman Catholic Church, and one of the seven Martyrs of Songkhon. She was born to Amato Sinuen and Agatha Thep in Songkhon, Mukdahan, Thailand, on December 16, 1924. As a young teenager, she worked in the kitchen of a mission in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Thare and Nonseng. Cecilia, along with the six other martyrs, were shot to death by Thai Police in the Songkhon cemetery on December 26, 1940. Cecilia was declared venerable by Pope John Paul II on September 1, 1988, and beatified on October 22, 1989. She is remembered by Catholics in Mukdahan as an example of retaining joy under oppression.[1] [2]
