Blue Evolution

Blue Evolution is the title of a German comic series, designed by Marian Kretschmer and issued by the independent publishing company THENEXTART since 2004. It combines elements from classical comics with modern graphic design in a way that makes the series outstanding by German comic standards. It provides a fantasy story about an eternal struggle between the powers of the darkness and the light. The series is often compared by critics with the outstanding releases of Image Comics.

Storyline[edit]

The main character is 15 years old Malik from province town Sachsenburg in Saxony. His special abilities he's about to discover during his coming of age call the interest of greater powers. In the following the boy becomes aware of his qualities but also gets manipulated by the dark and the light side. Four years later the young man stands at the edge of sanity and the balance of powers seems to be corroded.

The story takes place on Earth and on its counterpart Do-Nahrlogimoppig-Fyl, where fierce battles between the armies of darkness and light trying to overthrow the ancient balance of powers. In the end both worlds are heading for a cataclysm in an apocalyptic scale.

Each edition has a circulation of 1000 copies and is printed in American comic standard format. Every book has 32 pages, is fully coloured and free of advertisement.

The complete series are released in 3 volumes, these are cut into 6 parts. 4 of the single parts were released with different variant covers in limited editions.

The first release was in March 2004, the sixth release was in September 2006. In March 2008 an offspring series was started as Blue Evolution: LARP #1 was released, which will be continued in last quarter 2008. A second offspring series will be started in spring 2009.
