Blue Horizon (legal name Blue Horizon Corporation AG) is a private venture capital firm based in Zurich, Switzerland. Founded in 2016 by Roger Lienhard, the firm invests in early stage start-ups in the alternative protein and agricultural sectors, and food-focused startups with a sustainability focus. Blue Horizon currently has a portfolio of over 30 investments including Planted[1], Rebellyous Foods[2], LiveKindly[3], Beyond Meat[4], Eat JUST[5], Impossible Foods, alternative seafood company Good Catch Foods, animal-free protein products manufacturer Clara Foods and others.

Blue Horizon International Foundation[edit]

Blue Horizon International Foundation is a California based not-for-profit 501(c)3 and the charitable arm of Blue Horizon. The foundation invests in and supports people, initiatives and organizations, to accelerate the removal of animals from the global food chain.

In 2019 and 2020, Blue Horizon International Foundation partnered with the Million Dollar Vegan campaign dedicated to fighting “climate change with diet change,” calling on Pope Francis[6] and US President Donald Trump to go vegan[7] in exchange for $1 million donated to the charity, or charities, of their choice. The campaign is backed by celebrities including Paul McCartney, Woody Harrelson, Moby and Mena Suvari[8].

Blue Horizon Ventures[edit]

Blue Horizon Ventures is a food technology-focused venture capital fund founded in 2018 by serial entrepreneurs and investors Roger Lienhard and Michael Kleindl. The fund aims to support the movement towards a more sustainable food system through innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. The underlying mission of the fund is to promote a positive global impact on the environment, human health and animal welfare.

In September 2019, Blue Horizon Ventures announced the first close of its flagship fund dedicated to investing in plant-based food, cellular agriculture and sustainability-focused companies with investments in companies Algama Foods, Clara Foods, Human Food and TIPA[9].
