Blue Shades

Blue Shades is a bluegrass band located in central Pennsylvania. The band originated in 2001 and has performed together for over 10 years.[1] They perform many different types of songs, ranging from lonesome traditional bluegrass music to modern originals they wrote and a few old time gospels in there as well.

The band consists of 4 different men as of right now, but there have been 5 different members throughout the years.

The original band was made up of: Troy Wigfield, who sings the tenor vocals and plays bass for the band. [2] Troy is a second-generation bluegrass musician and has been playing music over twenty years. He has been a part of different bands and many different genres. He has a wide range in vocals from tenor to bass. He also plays the guitar and dobro.

Brad Foust, who sings the lead vocals and plays the guitar.[3] Brad began playing the guitar and mandolin in the early seventies. He performed with another band called "True Bluegrass" before Blue Shades, in which he played the mandolin.

John Dively, who sings the baritone vocals and plays the banjo for Blue Shades. [4]John has been playing the guitar since the late eighties and has performed with Blue Shades for the majority of his career. He also plays the guitar and sings lead.

Don Fronk, who sings the baritone vocals and plays the mandolin in the band. [5] Don began playing the guitar at 8 years old and the mandolin at 13. He learned from his father who is also a bluegrass musician today. At 13, Don joined his first blugrass band called “ Sassafras” a bluegrass Gospel band.

The newest member of the band, Vince Bartlebaugh who plays the banjo has been involved with instruments since he was 8. He teaches college work-shops, and has been giving private lessons for over twenty years. [6]

The original group released an album called "So Happy Together" in which all the members except Vince were featured.

The second album the group released was titled "Chasing Dreams" and it had 8 tracks. The titles were: Catawba, Chasin Dreams, Gardens and Memories, Ghost Riders, Little White Church, Maggie May, Stoney Creek, and Whole World Round. All of these tracks can be previewed here: [7]
