Boating on the Seine

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Boating on the Seine (often known as "The Skiff" or "La Yole") is an 1875 oil on canvas painting by French Impressionist painter Pierre- Auguste Renoir.[1] It depicts two women boating on the Seine, with a large manor house in the background. Its iconic Impressionistic brush strokes are very prominent. It is now in the permanent collection of the National Gallery, London.

It has a very prominent use of azure blue, a very expensive pigment in the 19th century. Although, this is not very surprising. Renoir was an iconic figure in France in the 19th century, along with Claude Monet, Georges Seurat and Paul Gauguin, so he was very well paid. This piece was shown in 1876 at the Paris Salon, along with Renoir's other masterpiece, Dance at the Moulin de la Galette.
