Bob Von Haden (born November 20, 1939) is a member of the Eau Claire City Council and a retired Certified Public Accountant.[2]

Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Von Haden was born and raised in the town of Blair, Wisconsin, the son of Gilbert John Edward "Gib" Von Haden and Lorena Von Haden (née Schirmer). He graduated from Taylor High School in 1957. After attending Luther College and graduating in 1961, he ended up back in Wisconsin, and, ultimately, in Eau Claire. He married during this time, had three children, and went to work as a CPA for a local company, spending his career working for them.[3]

Political career[edit]

Von Haden was elected to the council in 2003.[4] He represents district four of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, which includes Wards 4, 7, 14, 19, 22, 23, 29, 40, 41, 42, 45, 50, 51 & 55. He has been endorsed by the UW-Eau Claire Spectator.[5] Von Haden has served on the Parks and Waterways Commission and as a trustee of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library.

Von Haden was a strong supporter of the Fairfax Pool project in Eau Claire. He organized a citizen committee to collect signatures to get a charter ordinance on a local ballot in April 1989. Ultimately, Fairfax was built in 1991. As a council member, Von Haden was one of the votes in opposition to building a county jail in downtown Eau Claire. He also was concerned with extending health insurance plans to same-sex couples in the city, citing concerns regarding the cost.[6]

Von Haden has been heavily opposed to the $85 million Confluence Project in the Chippewa Valley. He was one of the founders of "Voters With Facts."[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
