Bonfire Pipe to Pipe
Pipe to Pipe is a snowboard and skateboard contest sponsored by Bonfire Snowboarding and Windells Snowboard Camp.[1] It is held during the summer months at Timberline Resort and Windells Camp. Bonfire Pipe to Pipe was started in 1993 by Bonfire founder Brad Steward and Windells founder Tim Windell, and it is the longest running summer snowboard event in the world.[2]
The snowboard contests takes place at Windells Snowboard Camp at Timberline Resort. The skateboard contest takes place down the hill at Windells Camp near Welches, Oregon. In the past, the skateboard contest has been held in the camp's indoor skate park – BOB – but in 2010 it relocated just outside BOB's doors to the newly constructed, 29,500-square-foot (2,740 m2), all-concrete outdoor park – The Concrete Jungle – allowing for a record turnout for both contestants and spectators alike.[3]
Format[edit]
Pipe to Pipe typically consists of a series of contests spread throughout July and August, however in 2010 Bonfire compiled the series into one day of skateboarding and snowboarding.[4] The format has varied throughout the 13 Pipe to Pipe contests, featuring a half pipe contest in the early years and adopting a rail contest format in recent years.[5] In 2010, Pipe to Pipe returned to its roots and featured a 150-foot-long (46 m), 15-foot-tall (4.6 m) mini pipe filled with a mix of features and jibs.[6]
Both the snow and skate events are open to the public, and registration is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Currently there is a Women's and Men's Professional and Amateur division for the snow contest and a Men's and Women's Am division, Men's under 15 Am division, and Men's Pro division for the skate contest. Pros are usually awarded a cash prize, while Ams receive product from sponsors.
