Bookimed is a global healthcare marketplace where you can search for treatment options and get assistance in travel arrangements. The website is often described as Booking.com in healthcare industry. The Bookimed platform was created for both medical facilities and people globally — clinics represent their services and patients receive access to the best medical solutions worldwide.[1]

The company is headquartered in Kyiv and Hong Kong.

For the last 5 years, Bookimed has helped 255,290 people receive an appropriate medical option.

Mission[edit]

Bookimed's mission is to provide patients with access to the relevant medical options, help with health trip arrangements, and support them all the way.

History[edit]

Bookimed was founded in 2014 by Ievgen Khotianov and Yevhenii Kozlov, the Ukrainian businessmen. The kick-starting of the company was an idea to create a single online source of healthcare options and treatment arrangements for people worldwide. The idea was produced with the medical check-up experience of co-founder Yevhenii Kozlov in one Israeli clinic.

Yevhenii Kozlov:

There was no single platform for hospital search over the world on one side, and there were a lot of medical tourism agents that provided costly services on the other side. That's how the idea of creating an international platform like Booking.com without any additional charges was developed.

The first platform release was in 2014. 10 German and Israeli medical facilities were engaged in collaboration. In 2017, Bookimed received an investment of 0.5 mln dollars from AVentures Capital, the venture capital fund of Andrew Kolodyuk.[2]

Audience[edit]

About 260,000 users visit Bookimed.com every month. Most of them are from:

  • Ukraine
  • Russia
  • USA
  • Germany
  • Turkey.

About 60% of requests are from CIS countries [3]. 100,000 customers appealed to Bookimed in 2014-2018 and 200,000 patients from 28 countries in 2018-2019. 70% of these patients have certain health problems, but medical check-ups and plastic surgery are becoming increasingly popular.

Yevhenii Kozlov:

Our client is one who does not go to the nearest clinic but knows exactly what treatment result he/she wants to receive. There are usually two situations: when the patient is already disappointed in local medicine or when the patient realizes that it is better to get treatments in another country. Depending on the patient's wishes, Bookimed offers several options to choose from.

28 countries are available on the website. 80% of medical tourists are mainly from five countries — Israel, Germany, Turkey, India, and Spain.

Most often, patients seek cancer treatment (80% of cases), neurosurgical and orthopedic operations. People with rare diseases refer to Bookimed for diagnosis clarifying and information on the latest developments.

Users[edit]

There are over 2190 reviews on Bookimed.com. Only a verified user who has already undergone diagnosis, treatment or aesthetic procedure in a particular clinic can write a review. Other registered users may ask patients or clinic representatives interesting questions to them and join the discussion.

Website structure[edit]

The Bookimed website is bilingual — all material is introduced in English and Russian. The site structure includes the following categories:

  • clinics
  • doctors
  • patient reviews
  • articles.

The clinics are grouped into the catalogs by medical specialty, disease, diagnosis and treatment, countries and cities. The database contains information about 347 medical centers and 1584 doctors.

Business Model[edit]

Bookimed works on a Cost Per Action (CPA) business model. The patient pays only for medical care at the health center. The Bookimed service is financed by the partner clinics and does not increase the cost of patient care. Regardless of whether the patient is referred to, Bookimed or the clinic, the treatment cost is the same. The competition between healthcare facilities encourages them to make discounts, so Bookimed receives special offers for its patients.

Doctors[edit]

The Bookimed team consists of about 120 members, 79 of them are doctors. They help match an appropriate medical facility according to the patient's medical history. Regardless of the chosen medical center location (abroad or in the native country), the patient receives useful information. For patients who travel for treatment overseas, the medical coordinator stays in touch with the patient 24/7. Bookimed coordinators are medically-trained specialists that undergo internships in other countries, visit and inspect clinics cooperating with the company.

Awards[edit]

In 2018, the company was included in Top 5 Ukrainian medical startups well-known in the world. MC TODAY listed Bookimed in the ranking of the 100 most respected IT-employers in Ukraine. According to Apiumhub and Valuer versions, Bookimed is among the leading medtech startups in Europe.

Each year, the company publishes a list of the best clinics for patients all over the world. The Bookimed Award is independent and free of charge for medical centers based on the patient experience and reviews, medical services quality, treatment success rates, and accessibility to innovative technologies.

Charity[edit]

The company participates in a Cup of Coffee, the charity project by Dmitry Komarov, a well-known Ukrainian journalist. Bookimed is a partner who takes over medical support: medical coordinators consult patients and help find treatment options abroad.
