Boost! is a noncarbonated cola-type soft drink primarily sold in Burlington County, New Jersey. The over 100-year-old drink[1] has been a staple in many homes in the once rural, primarily farming county, and it can now be found in many other surrounding counties.[2] Many people stop by local grocers, gas stations, ice cream shops, and a few Rita's Water Ice locations to purchase the drink or slushies.[3] Boost! is normally available in gallon and half-gallon glass bottles. Boost! is also available in numerous flavors – mainly for use in slushie machines, and it is also available in caffeinated and un-caffeinated concentrates.[4]
History Benjamin Faunce, a pharmacist from Riverside, New Jersey, opened a store called Tak-ABoost carrying pharmaceuticals as well as a soda fountain, where he sold Boost to help alleviate many different ailments, antidotes, and as an antiemetic. As well as being marketed for use as ice cream toppings, mixed with milk or soda water as a consumable.[5] He filed for and was granted a patent in 1913 for his creation and proceeded to open stores in nearby towns like Palmyra and Burlington. Once known as Drink-AToast and later Tak-A-Boost, the company codified its name to Boost! in 1997.
