Swarna Das (Bengali:স্বর্ণা দাস) was a Bangladeshi teenage girl who was killed at Bangladesh India Border on 1 September 2024 by BSF firing.[3] BSF took her body into India, did post mortem and returned her body after 45 hours.[4] This incident created angers among Bangladeshis, but BSF denied firing and blamed BGB for this incident.[3]
Meanwhile, Porendra Das, father of deceased girl said at media briefing in a tearful voice, Swarna wanted to go to India to see her brother. But the body went to India. He also said, If they didn't let go in, they could have arrested and jailed her. She would have been prosecuted by law.[1]
Diplomatic Protest[edit]
Bangladesh Government released a press note that, The Government of Bangladesh reminded that such incidents of border killing are undesirable and unwarranted and such actions are in violation of the provisions of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975.[3]
Bangladesh also urged India to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, conduct investigations into all border killings, identify those responsible, and ensuring justice for the deceased.[3]
Civil Protest[edit]
After the killing, several protests have taken place and people demanded the justice for the killing.[5]
