About Borna Kazerani is an Australian-Iranian filmmaker living in Melbourne, Australia. He was recognised as the youngest Iranian filmmaker in 2000.

Biography His filmmaking activities met with various responses from Iranian authorities as his films addressed subjects considered “taboo” under Islamic law such as human rights, sex, sexuality, homosexuality, age of consent, women in sport, relationships, voting, culture, social structures and politics. When he was 15 years old he made a short film called “My 24 hours”. This was the beginning of his success as a filmmaker, but also many problems with Iranian authorities. He was notified that his movie received an award at the Nepal Short Film Festival for Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Cameraman. In 2004, he began work on another movie called “Raad. A Womanly Story”. The subject was a girl who felt her rights were being restricted by religion and Islamic laws. She was very frustrated about being a woman and decided to change her sexuality to become a man. In the movie, the girl is a lesbian. At the beginning the movie was about a girl who wanted to be a man, but as it was developing, other issues began to emerge. The making of this movie received wide exposure in magazines and the public media. He was recognised as the youngest film director in Iran. In February 2005, he met Shirin Ebadi. She was the first Iranian woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He told her about “Raad” and asked if he could interview her in the movie. He proposed that she talk about current events, issues facing young people and the movie topic and she agreed to be involved. Two hundred people were involved in making this film. In September 2005, he finished filming another movie called “8 People Tango” in which Iranian boys and girls talk openly about their lives. The movie addressed issues including sex, women in sport, relationships, voting, culture, and cultural differences between social levels, politics, and the experiences of a girl who was raped and whose father abused her. It was never shown or released in Iran. He was the producer, director, photographer and designer of this movie. In April 2011, he finished filming another movie called “My Beautiful Life”. This film is about people dealing with cancer and it also contains the themes of hope, life and the human spirit.
