Boss Tuneage is an independent record label based in Belford, UK.

History

Boss Tuneage was founded by Aston Stephens in 1990. He got into punk music as a young teenager and started his own fanzine, at 15, called IG that got him in touch with many punk artists. On the back of that, he released a 7" split single between Vehicle Derek and Goober Patrol and the 500 copies sold in three weeks.[1] By the mid 90s, Boss Tuneage had become a dominant force in the punk scene[2] and became one of the busiest labels in their genre.[3] To date, Boss Tuneage have released more than 400 titles with a roster of more than 100 bands.

Ethics & ethos

Boss Tuneage's work on a 50:50 share with the artists; the artists fund their own recordings while Boss Tuneage release the music. Aston Stephens has the ethos of primarily releasing "the stuff that I personally like, and hope enough people like it too!"[4]

Boss Tuneage has a number of imprints including Boss Tuneage Retro, X Fist, Mosh Tuneage, Flexipunk and Free Range Product.[5]
